Don’t worry, writing a great blog post isn’t very hard and there are lots of great topics that you can write about too to keep your readers coming back for more. The most important thing to remember when you are learning how to write a blog post is to keep true to yourself and your personal style.
I have been a blogger for about a year now and I think it is great fun. Let me share with you some of my top tips on how to write a blog.
How to write a blog post Tip #1
One of the top challenges new bloggers find is what to write their blog about. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that your blog post needs to real like an article in a pithy news magazine. You are not a reporter and you don’t need feel like your content needs to be the most cutting edge or brand new idea. If you wait for a brand new idea, you might wait for a long time. There are many things in online marketing that are quite standard, such as the importance of having a blog. Where your blog post becomes compelling is when you write about how it has changed things for you.
For example, perhaps you wrote a blog post and made a connection with someone. Or you wrote a blog post and used some html code for the first time and it came out looking really great. Or you wrote a blog post and had some great rankings! These are all things that are based on something “old” (the notion of having a blog) but are “new” in the sense that you have shared your personal experience. Remember the best tip is to be yourself.
How to write a blog post, Tip #2
When you are not writing with your own voice and perhaps trying to write something with a style that is not your own, it will show. It will be stiff, or perhaps even unreadable. It is important to remember when you are learning that although you want to adopt a style that is personal to you, you still need to use language that makes sense and portrays you as a smart and credible marketer. One place where you can go wrong is to be too familiar with slang or to have lots of errors. I know that when I find blog posts with obscenities, typos and other grammar errors, I find it off putting. And mind you, I am not a sissy and I have said a swear word or two like any other red blooded American, but when I come to someone’s blog post to learn about marketing or any other topic, the obscenities seem very out of place to me.
And, typos happen, I have certainly had a few in my day, but I tap into my mastermind group to take a quick peek at my posts to make sure my spell checker wasn’t sleeping on the job.
How to write a blog post , Tip #3
Remember those school essays? Good!
If you are not sure how to structure your blog post when you get started with learning how to write a blog post, then you need to remember your good old fashioned grade school essays. You can use a basic 5 paragraph essay structure.
Start with a topic sentence with your keyword to tell your reader what the post is all about.
Give a few introductory sentences and voila, your intro portion of your blog post is complete.
Next write a few short and sweet paragraphs about the main points you want to use to explain or demonstrate your intro topic.These can be bullet points, numbers or short paragraphs.
In your conclusion, you tie it all up with a bow. You touch on your main points again and give your reader a call to action.
When you are learning how to write a great post just remember, tell your reader what you are going to say, say what you are going to say and then tell them what you just said.
And one last thing… people LOVE pictures, so grab a few royalty free stock photos to make your post look super sharp and you are good to go.
