Smart Reading for Marketers

What am I reading? I am an audible book junkie and I try to keep my reading in balance:

I read about online marketing, I read about money management and finances and I read about health and fitness… Also, I do read for fun, my favorites are historical novels, but I will save that for another page.

Business and Money Management:
Dave Ramsey Book and Workbook: I have given this book away to more friend and family than any other book. Let’s hope they all read it. This book has a baby step by baby step blue print on how to eliminate your debt and increase your wealth.

The Four Hour Workweek: This book will make you rethink every aspect of your current employment or entrepreneurial experience. Timothy Ferris is brilliant in his strategies of time efficiency, outsourcing and frequent retirements. This is a must read for those seeking financial freedom

The Millionaire Next Door: Although the stats are a little behind, this book is still as relevant as the day it was published. If you have ever wanted to better understand and adopt the millionaire mindset, this is the book to read. It will not only help you get your own finances on track, but help you to best advise your children so they don’t fall into some of the very typical trappings of children of the wealthy.

Think and Grow Rich: Need I say more? This is where the notion of masterminding had its beginnings.

Mindset:
A Return to Love:
Wondering if you can be a part of a miracle? This is a must read:

The Alchemist: This book is a wake up call-parabale for me. It is a short listen, but if you listen carefully you will find the best and the worst of yourself inside.

Health and Fitness:
Skinny Bitch: This is a great book and don’t let the foul language put you off. These women have got it right when they talk about the importance of eating clean healthy food and avoiding chemicals and toxins in our diets. You will either love their “in your face” style or you will hate it. This is one of the only books that I have ever fast forwarded as they speak in heartbreaking detail of how meat, poultry and dairy in this country is produced. Your innocence will be lost. The only drawback for me is that they promote a raw vegan diet and with my own sensitivities to the staple ingredient in most of their recipes, there is not a lot here that I can replicate in my own kitchen.

French Women Don’t Get Fat: Hey, being wealthy is nothing unless you are healthy and feel great. This is a fun and humorous book written by a French woman living in New York who has found a way to keep rich foods and good drink in her life all while staying slim and satisfied with food. Great read.

Just for Fun:
The Quickie: James Patterson. This crime thriller will keep you on your toes. Mary Stuart Masterson, does a great job capturing the many characters in this suspenseful plot. If this book doesn’t make you a little paranoid, I don’t know what would…

Shantaram: This book will literally transport you to the most breathtaking scenery in India… and will also transport you into the heart of the Indian slums where untold beauty and horror lie. The real person portrayed in this story is truly amazing. This is someone you want at your next dinner party, because his story of smuggling, drug dealing, escape from prison and non-reciprocated love, will have on you the edge of your chair, make you heart pound and you imagination run wild. Again this is one of a very short list that I have listened to more than once.

Duma Key: This is one of my all time favorite Stephen King books. This is an escape from his usual style of fantastical gore. This is an amazing story of triumph, heartbreak, hope, friendship and of course a nice dose of Stephen King’s classic creepy. This book will have you booking your next trip to the keys.

The Gold Coast: This is one of my all time favorite books. This is a great tale of how life can truely spin out of control. This book is filled with colorful characters who are larger than life and you may just end up with a crush on the protagonist and antagonist alike. This is a must read and one of the few books on my ipod that I have ever listened to twice.

The Gate House: This is the long awaited seqal to the Gold coast and it picks up right where the Gold Coast leaves off… with a little water under the bridge. The author sells himself short a bit in this work as I think the frequent references back to the first book are a reaction to his fear that people might have missed his amazing work. This doesn’t take away from the incredible tale Nelson DeMille weaves again in this book.

A Discovery of Witches: This is a fun light book. Very much the “beach read” If you enjoy relaxing with a book. This is a good choice.

The Skinny Girl Rules: I am a big fan of Bethanny Frankel and I tweet about her books from time to time. She is the American dream- She worked smart, branded herself correctly, had an industry success beyond words, all while sharing her life with us on reality tv. She is funny and witty and really has it all with a great hubby, sweet baby and the career of most people’s dreams. She is super skinny and has put a voice in my head when it comes to my own food choices and eating habits. Her words are pure wisdom and we should all be so happy for her.

Under the Dome: This book popped onto my radar around the time of Duma Key. It is very different from other works by Stephen King that I read without the gore and creep… but it still has enough to make you flinch, cringe and wince just enough. This is a study of human nature mixed with the super natural . I loved it.

The Autobiography of Henry the VIII: Margaret George: I don’t know why, but I kind of like Henry VIII. I know since he killed an awful lot of people, I shouldn’t perhaps say that out loud, but he was a larger than life, tortured soul who fascinates historian and forensic doctors alike. This is a marvelous story based on over 10 years of extensive research by the author in the UK and in France. It is told from the perspective of his jester as well, who was an intimate in his circle and lends a touch of acerbic humor to the autobiographical perspective of this book. This book was hard to put down.
