With quite a few years in the trenches of Network Marketing companies, I have heard it time and time again that women find it more challenging recruiting men with a business opportunity.
There is cause for concern since let’s face it men and women have very different communication styles and it is worth it for you to take a little time to better understand how to speak the language of the person you are recruiting or coaching.
Recruiting men into your network marketing company:
Now please note that I have no choice other than to speak in generalities on this topic everyone is different, but these traits are typical and can serve as guidelines when you are talking to prospects or are training.
1. Men tend to be more aggressive in network marketing as they are pushing back from more widely accepted corporate models and they sometimes approach their business with an aire of having something to “justify” or something to “prove”. And remember they may be pushing back against and entire lifetime of hearing a message to get an education and get a job. They may be facing ignorant disapproval from former collegues, friends, their spouse and even their family. This can create a justifiable chip on the shoulder, but it can be honed into a fine tuned tool to connect with other prospects who are facing similar challenges.
2. Men, as traditional bread winners, are often very motivated by money and/or financial freedom. Even if spending time with your family is one of your top motivators, you may not want to lead with this unless you know for sure this is a top priority for your prospect.
3. Men can be ego-driven this can be a great thing if their ego motivates them to success, but can be a challenge if it makes them hard to coach and unwilling to accept new ideas and learn.
4. Men can give off an air of confidence which is almost always a plus but you need to make sure that this isn’t a trigger for you to lose your cool.
5. Men love a challenge which is a good thing because they will be facing challenges in their business and you can directly challenge them to perform in their business.
Remember when recruiting men in network marketing companies that they usually love to be challenged by their fellow distributors and need some type of aggressive personality to push them in the right direction. This is true for when you’re first prospecting them, or if they are already in your business that needs some coaching
If you are recruiting men who have an aggressive personalities, and it doesn’t work out, that is still okay. It is most important that you sound confident and do not try to “tell” too much. Give them the facts and challenge them to decide why he wouldn’t want the clear benefits of business ownership and financial freedom. Keep it simple and don’t put yourself in a position where you might be tripped up. Another approach is to ask a lot of questions. Remember you are also screening them, and you should give them the opportunity to prove to you that he is an intriguing prospect for you.
Men are great assets in your business. They dominate the high income bracket population in network marketing companies and are wonderful presenters. The part they will need help with is not reinventing the wheel. The need to be open to abandoning other business practices and honing a new skill set. Be ready for a bit of push back and make a wise decision when someone is putting more energy in disagreeing with you or proving you wrong, than simply working through the challenges of understanding and implementing new business ideas.
