Cookies and Your New Year’s Resolution

January is the time of year when most people are still hanging onto their new year’s resolutions and the top resolution is diet.

But did you know you might be able to actually achieve your weight loss goals by eating cookies?

Yes, you read that right. Cookies, those delicious little baked treats that have as many varieties of deliciousness as the brain can ponder, might be your #1 tool in the battle of the bulge.

This is not new news however, weight loss expert and more specifically obesity expert Dr. Siegel developed a “weight loss” cookie back in the 70 and this diet is still popular today.

So how do you lose weight with cookies?

Well the main idea behind the cookies as a diet tool is many people were extremely challenged with dieting because they became too hungry between their designated meals. This would lead to disaster as people would go off the diet and binge on something inappropriate and set themselves back in the dietary goals.

So why cookies?

Dr. Siegal found that one of the greatest challenges for his patients was this feeling of deprivation so he wanted to develop a “treat” that would curb hunger and prevent binging and he wanted it to seem decadent so dieters wouldn’t feel like they were being deprived.

Now, the cookies that were developed were not ordinary cookies with bleached flour, lots of sugar and butter, but rather they had to be nutritious, filling, low calorie, high in protein and fiber and yes, they have to taste good. The way it works is that you need to eat around 6 cookies a day to fill in all the hunger gaps that are bound to arise with an over all lower calorie diet. The great thing is they are not laden with unnatural ingredients that give a false sense of fullness or can have other adverse health effects.

So how effective is this? Well, this diet has been around for decades and for a good reason. Most people don’t succeed with “hard core” dieting. They need to find ways to still enjoy their food choices, feel satiated and feel like they are still part of a society that loves to indulge on food. The cookies absolutely get them there, so the success rate is high and the longevity of the program says plenty in and of itself. Are you looking to try these yourself?
